Climbing in San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily

We were last in Sicily only 10 months ago, but we had such a good time that it was high on our list of places to return to. However, this visit has not had the same idyllic conditions, our first three days were almost non-stop rain, high winds, thunder, and single digit temperatures. It was … Continue reading Climbing in San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily →

Exploring Herculaneum

Ever since I was a teenager I have wanted to visit Pompeii, it was at the top of my "must see" list of places. I got the chance to go there a couple of years ago when we had a holiday on the Amalfi coast, and that got me even more interested so I longed … Continue reading Exploring Herculaneum →

Climbing in Salerno – part 2

Our week climbing in Salerno got off to a very poor start (read the first blog here). Day 1 had good climbing, Day 2 had bad climbing, and Day's 3 and 4 were rained off. It is fair to say we were not in the best frame of mind by the end of Day 4. … Continue reading Climbing in Salerno – part 2 →

Climbing in Salerno – Part 1

Climbing in Salerno has not been the motivating introduction to our trip that we had hoped for. It has been cold, wet, and the crag has spat us off routes that seemed perfectly achievable from the ground. However, there have been some highlights, although these were mostly in the form of some new found 4 … Continue reading Climbing in Salerno – Part 1 →

The journey begins – Exploring Rome

All journeys have to start somewhere, and ours started in Rome. Not because we especially wanted to go to Rome, but as we had to stay overnight there anyway we decided to stay for 2 days and explore a bit. We intentionally bypassed the "old stones", although I confess I found this quite challenging, and … Continue reading The journey begins – Exploring Rome →

What else have I forgotten?

A three and half month trip is an awkward length of time for a holiday, especially in terms of the organisation. For short, two week trips, I can book, pack and go in the space of a day. Nothing exceptional needs to be done, pack a bag, grab my passport, turn the heating down. When … Continue reading What else have I forgotten? →

Today was the last of 4 days climbing in Provence. We visited 6 limestone crags and each one had a very different style of climbing. We could easily spend a week just at one crag. I am sure we will be back!
Had a quick visit to Notre Dames des Anges, le Grandes Mur Rouge today, and was very impressed with routes. Jon did one 40m 6b which was fantastic, but all the other lines look equally good. We will have to have a full day here before the end of our trip.
I think I need to work on my lock-offs! Autumn training is about to commence!
Everyone in the house is avidly watching the #europeanchampionships #munich2022 #sportclimbing competition! I am so pleased @ifsclimbing had the livestream on their website.
Jon approaching the crux on ‘Regarde les baleines passer’ (7b). This was his second 7b redpoint this summer, a new personal best!
Woohoo! We have just had a great day climbing at Remingy. After one session working the route, Jon successfully redpointed his first 7b in France. On top of that, for the first time ever, I led every route I climbed today. Not bad for someone who prefers a top rope! It is great to feel like we are making progress with our climbing again 😊.
