After several requests I have finally got around to creating the latest installment in the photo gallery. (Just click on the "Gallery" menu above to access them and others). Fontainebleau, 2018

Fontainebleau has become a bit of a favourite destination for us over the last few years, we try and escape at the start of the year while it is still cold here, and is just starting to warm up there. This year was no different, and we went across for a week at the end … Continue reading Fontainebleau, 2018 →

The 7a milestone finally topples…sort of!

I've done it! I have finally done a clean ascent of a 7a. Okay, I admit, there are a few caveats. The first one being it was at a climbing wall. The second one being I was on a top rope. But general consensus says it is an accurately graded 7a, and I don't particularly … Continue reading The 7a milestone finally topples…sort of! →

Where next?

I can't believe it is only 5 weeks until we are off on our Big Trip! Doing a trip like this is something that Jon and I have talked about for 8 years, but it has always been a bit of a pipe dream. Now suddenly, in the space of a couple of weeks, the … Continue reading Where next? →

San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily. 2018

In March 2018 we had an immensely enjoyable trip to Sicily. The long limestone edge at San Vito Lo Capo kept us entertained for days with an abundance of fantastic lines. We were there in March and we rarely came across any other climbers, despite perfect conditions for climbing both in and out of the … Continue reading San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily. 2018 →

Wadi Rum, Jordan. 2018

Back in 2017 when we were thinking of ideas for our next climbing holiday, Jordan came up as a possibility. This was somewhere I had not considered before and was very much outside my comfort zone. It sounded fantastic, but also very adventurous. Perhaps too adventurous for me? I don't mind 3 or 4 pitch … Continue reading Wadi Rum, Jordan. 2018 →

Fontainebleau, France. 2016

Fontainebleau is such a fabulous place to go bouldering. There is simply so much choice at every grade, and with a really wide variety of climbing styles. The forest itself is delightful with the boulders sheltered among the trees and in some places in the middle of vast expanses of sand.  This video shows a … Continue reading Fontainebleau, France. 2016 →

Monsterrat, Spain. 2016

Montserrat is just west of Barcelona in Spain and consists of huge conglomerate pinnacles above an old (but still active) monastery. The climbing is scary but rewarding. Long run-outs between (sometimes missing) bolts, standing on holds that look like they won’t be there for much longer. Long multi-pitch routes with a real sense of adventure … Continue reading Monsterrat, Spain. 2016 →

Woohoo! We have just had a great day climbing at Remingy. After one session working the route, Jon successfully redpointed his first 7b in France. On top of that, for the first time ever, I led every route I climbed today. Not bad for someone who prefers a top rope! It is great to feel like we are making progress with our climbing again 😊.
Our home in France now has its very own Instagram account!! Check out @laboutonniere_bourgogne to see the non-climbing side of our life here… our gîte, the organic potager, and the first steps towards rewilding the fields.
Had a lovely day at #Geligny on Friday with some friends. Penny and I sat back and watched the boys in action, but then I couldn’t avoid another attempt at “Immense et Rouge”, such a fun climb, but hard work!
Another good day at Cormot. The rain held off and the clouds and wind kept the sun and heat bay. It was lovely 😊.
Today was a perfect day for climbing at Cormot. The weather was cool and cloudy and we had the crag to ourselves, the only noise was the sound of the birds in the trees. And we have goodies from the local patisserie to replenish our calories afterwards. Bliss! 😊
Today we had the alternative Burgundy climbing experience… the heavens opened just as we were contemplating our second route, so we found the nearest cave and huddled inside to sit out the downpour. 20 minutes later and after finishing our lunch, we emerged from our (small) cave and found the rock soaking wet. So we went to the climbing shop in Dijon instead 😂.
