The Nisyros Volcano

It's hot and the sun is beating down on me. The cool breeze does not penetrate into this place. A sulphurous smell permeates the air, and the dry, acrid rock fractures under my feet. Each crack reveals a layer of bright yellow rock, sulphur, crystallised from the steaming gasses. Small droplets of water are visible … Continue reading The Nisyros Volcano →

Volcanic (Missed) Adventures

One of the anticipated highlights of this trip for me, was the chance to explore some active volcanoes. To get up close and personal, to peer inside the crater and to touch the rock that been thrown up from the depths of the earth.  Our itinerary was designed to give me the chance to see … Continue reading Volcanic (Missed) Adventures →

Just had a great day out, back on rock again after weeks of rain and house renovation. We did have to go down to the south of France to get the sun and the warmth, but it was worth it! #backonrock . #climbing #rockclimbing #aude #laclape #sunshine #greatview
I love the first snow of the year! It is always so exciting to wake up and see the world has gone white. 😊 #snow #firstsnow #whiteworld
After weeks of rain we finally managed to get out onto some rock again. Except we didn’t. We turned up at a deserted crag, picked the route we wanted to do and started to gear up. I disappeared around the corner for a moment and heard a deep guttural cry. “S**t” I thought “What’s happened”? I quickly returned and found Jon looking very unhappy... he had left his harness at home! A minor consolation was the fact it started raining as we headed back to the car, so we probably had a lucky escape! #checkyourgear #rainedoff #betterlucknexttime
It was a cold, misty morning today here in Burgundy. At 10am it was 4 degrees Celsius, but by lunchtime the sun had burned through the cloud and it was up nearer 20 degrees. More sun is forecasted for tomorrow so we are hoping to do some climbing at Cormot-le-Grand before the rain sets in. 🤞🏻#changingseasons . #escaladebourgogne #bourgogne #mist #mistymorning
I am loving the autumn colours at the moment 😍#leaves . #autumn #autumncolours #bourgogne #burgundyfrance
Why do people like me who find bouldering scary enjoy Fontainebleau so much? I have just written a blog (link in bio) which explains why I love climbing at Fontainebleau even though I don’t particularly enjoy bouldering elsewhere. #notscaredhere . #fontainebleau #fontainebleaubouldering #bouldering #fearoffalling #escalade #climbing
